Some EU nations resist efforts to close tax loopholes

The EU is trying to crack down on tax avoidance by multinational corporations and wealthy individuals, but the effort is being resisted by member states that have found it profitable to turn themselves into tax havens. Firms have been dramatically cutting their taxes by moving capital and profits to countries including Austria, Ireland and the Netherlands.
