Texas Legislature passes bill banning sugared-drink sales in schools

The Texas Senate passed and sent to the governor a House bill that prohibits public elementary and middle schools from selling sugared drinks during school hours. Some critics oppose the measure because it would ban the sale of healthier drinks, such as 2% milk, while others say the legislation should be even more restrictive by prohibiting sales of chocolate milk.
