Wash. project links public housing, education opportunity

In Washington, the Tacoma Housing Authority is in its second year of an initiative that offers housing, job training, parenting classes and other resources to 50 homeless families. The parents, in turn, must enroll their children in a local elementary school, take an active role in their education and become self-sufficient in five years. The goal is to improve both the school and the lives of the families.
