NIH launches breast cancer treatment study

The large clinical trial is aimed at finding the best treatment for early-stage breast cancer, with the hope chemotherapy could be avoided by many women. Newer research indicates that other means -- such as surgery, radiation or both, and hormone-based drugs such as tamoxifen -- are effective in treating the disease.
