Report: Tierney group nears purchase of Philly dailies

A group of Philadelphia investors led by advertising executive Brian Tierney is closing in on a deal to purchase that city's two leading daily newspapers, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Daily News, from the McClatchy Company, for a reported $500 million. Tierney is the founder of Tierney Communications, now an Interpublic Group agency, as well as public relations shop T2 Group, now owned by the Advanta Corporation.
