Recession, protectionism threaten U.S. competitiveness

Corporate leaders gathered for a conference in Chicago warned yesterday that a faltering economy, lack of skilled workers and anti-globalization sentiment could threaten U.S. competitiveness in the coming years. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez told the crowd that free-trade agreements could help open markets for their products, but companies must become more agile to take advantage of global opportunities.
