Industry groups, including FMI, say a revision to country-of-origin labeling to require disclosure of where an animal was born, raised and slaughtered will cost even more money and labor. "It is unreasonable to have a 98-page rule of this magnitude effective immediately," FMI President and CEO Leslie G. Sarasin said. "Furthermore, it is profoundly unfair for the regulatory authorities to impose a rule that will have a significant, financial impact on our members when they know that the rule is unlikely to address the concerns raised by the World Trade Organization."
