"Extremely" poor materials cited as reason for factory collapse

Building materials of "extremely" poor quality and violations of the building code are being cited as reasons for the collapse of the eight-story garment factory in Bangladesh, according to a government report. "The owner used extremely poor quality iron rods and cement," said committee head Khandker Mainuddin Ahmed. "A portion of the building was constructed on land which had been a body of water before and was filled with rubbish."
