How can teachers reach struggling students?

Group responses, small-group discussions and written responses may help struggling students improve, suggests Kevin Feldman, emeritus director of reading and intervention with the Sonoma County, Calif., Office of Education. Feldman, an expert on improving performance, recently addressed about 200 teachers during a training session in White Plains, N.Y. Among other things, he said struggling students need constant engagement and should not be expected to raise their hands in class.
