New sepsis guidelines lead to palliative care discussions

New international sepsis care guidelines focus on earlier recognition and quick use of protocol-based treatments, according to information presented at a meeting of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The guidelines include holding a family care conference within 72 hours of ICU admission to discuss the prognosis and options for palliative care and end-of-life care.
