Online retail sales up 23%, to top $100 billion in 2005

Sales of consumer goods via the Internet are on a brisk growth track and will constitute 5.5% of all retail transactions this year, reports a major retail research organization. But digital transactions are only part of the story, as retailers report 20% of in-store purchases are influenced by information found on the Web. Women in particular are driving these trends, boosting sales of such items as cosmetics, jewelry and flowers.
