FDA approves J&J painkiller device

Johnson & Johnson received FDA approval for its lonsys painkiller device, which uses a weak electric current to deliver an opioid painkiller compound into the bloodstream through an adhesive strip on the skin. "This is the only needle-free, patient-administered analgesic system," a company spokesman said, adding the device has a built-in safeguard to prevent patients from overmedicating themselves.
