Airlines divided on effects of volcanic ash

Europe's largest airlines have said they found no signs of volcanic ash in the engines of their jetliners, though two smaller carriers have reported ash residue and one case of engine damage. The mixed reports come as European regulators attempt to allow more flexibility in airspace restrictions in order to minimize flight disruptions during ash-cloud events.
