Wall Street analyst Helane Becker of Jesup & Lamont Securities says "three scenarios make sense" for a US Airways merger, including tie-ups with American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways. While noting that CEO Doug Parker has long favored industry consolidation, Becker says US Airways also remains viable as an independent carrier. "There's no reason US Airways has to be part of another airline," she says. "US Airways has reported positive earnings surprises for the last couple of quarters, beaten expectations. I think they can continue to do that."
