Group: New data disclosure rules may discourage EMR adoption

The Medical Group Management Association has aired its concerns about a new HIPAA provision, saying it may deter doctors from adopting electronic medical records. The mandate -- which requires health care groups to monitor all patient data disclosures, including treatments and payments -- negates "the nation's efforts to improve patient care and reduce waste and inefficiency through administrative simplification and adoption of electronic health records," the group said.
