La. lawmaker wants to penalize Corps of Engineers for missing deadline

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., said the Army Corps of Engineers is committed to finishing the long-overdue flood-protection projects in the state, but he intends to file a proposal that imposes a $100,000 penalty on Corps of Engineers officials for every week they fail to meet the project deadline. "I will be tracking their progress to enforce all of these new commitments and deadlines and to ensure that any broken commitments or re-missed deadlines have serious consequences," he said.
