Are voucher programs right for students in special education?

Fifteen states now have voucher programs that help students with disabilities pay tuition for private schools, and many efforts to expand these programs or create new ones are under way. However, Lindsay Jones, senior director of policy and advocacy services for the Council for Exceptional Children, advises families to consider the implications of moving from public to private schools, where they are no longer protected under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act.
