OIE declares eradication of cattle plague

An often fatal cattle disease called Rinderpest or cattle plague that has killed millions of animals across Asia, Europe and Africa has been eliminated, according to the World Organization for Animal Health. The declaration tops an eradication effort that began nearly 90 years ago, when an outbreak of the illness occurred among imported cattle in Belgium. Rinderpest is the first animal disease to be eradicated in human history, according to this article.
