Using the concepts of video games to differentiate instruction

Neurologist and former teacher Judy Willis offers guidelines in this blog post for using the video-game model to plan lessons for students who may be struggling or have become frustrated or bored. Willis describes how the gaming model correlates to the scaffolding process and suggests that educators devise a system by which students can demonstrate incremental progress, or create ability-based groups in which students can work toward achievable goals. Students' progress should be documented through visual graphs or journal-writing, she notes.
