IBM bolsters analytics capacity with DB2 upgrade

IBM announced it will deploy an update to its DB2 database for its SmartCloud infrastructure-as-a-service offering, which will include a new feature dubbed BLU Acceleration that the company says leads to 25-times faster data analysis. The upgrade, which will be available in the second half of 2013, also includes support for in-memory databasing, enabling users to analyze data in real time. "Queries that used to run in seven minutes on a well-known data warehouse systems can run in eight milliseconds on our systems," said IBM's Bob Picciano. In addition, IBM is using a portion of its SmartCloud as part of a partnership with CEVA Logistics.
