Microirrigation systems help create a healthy summer landscape

Irrigation systems that slowly distribute water can help protect the landscape from the summer heat, writes Gary Bachman, an associate professor of horticulture at the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, Miss. A microirrigation system using drip irrigation, soaker hoses or drip tape is a good alternative to traditional sprinklers, Bachman notes.
