Pai: Let market set TV spectrum prices

Republican Federal Communications Commission member Ajit Pai urged that the FCC employ a light touch in overseeing the upcoming broadcast incentive auctions. In a speech to CTIA 2013 on Thursday, Pai endorsed the "down from 51" band plan promulgated by wireless companies and the National Association of Broadcasters. This proposal does not mingle broadcast and wireless spectrum. On the Democratic side, nominated U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker told a Senate panel that she would "work harder" to develop government-owned wireless spectrum to share with carriers and failing that, turn the matter over to the industry.
