Russia, U.S. sign first commercial deal on nuclear materials

The U.S. on Monday signed its first wholly commercial deal to buy nuclear material from Russia, following years of buying weapons-grade uranium that was "blended down" for commercial use. While the move reflects the increasing importance of nuclear power and Russia's position as a prime supplier of materials, some nonproliferation experts worry the deal will eliminate Russia's incentive to reduce its stockpile of nuclear weapons.
