Source: Geneticist a top candidate for NIH chief

Francis S. Collins, former chief of the National Human Genome Research Institute, is the top contender for NIH director, said a person familiar with the selection procedure. Collins, who headed the government's effort to map the human genome, is capable of "getting the best out of a huge enterprise," such as the NIH, said David Baltimore, a biology professor and Nobel Prize winner.
