Coalition presses Fla. governor to veto heavier trucks bill

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is feeling pressure from the Florida Coalition for Safe Highways to veto a bill that would let truckers increase the loads they haul. House Bill 1271 permits loads of 88,000 pounds, up from a previous limit of 80,000 pounds. The coalition contends that the bill would "require local and state governments to spend approximately $150.7 million annually to compensate the infrastructure damage that would result from heavier trucks."
