EIA: Biofuels helped reduce demand for imported oil in 2010

Increased biofuel production helped the U.S. slash its demand for imported oil in 2010, according to the Energy Information Administration. Crude imports comprised 49.3% of the country's oil demand in 2010, compared with 60.3% in 2005, the agency said. Increased domestic oil output, more fuel-efficient vehicles and the economic downturn also helped lower the need for imported crude and petroleum products, the EIA added.
