Illinois bill includes $3.5B to build clean-coal power plant

The draft of an omnibus Illinois House bill has revived the proposed construction of the $3.5 billion clean-coal Tenaska power plant in Taylorville. State Rep. Elaine Nekritz said some old coal-fired plants will be shutting down due to federal regulations, and a new power base will be needed. "In Illinois, we are going to need some new baseload power. One of the ways we can do that is through clean coal," said Nekritz.
