Wi-Fi Direct, NFC are becoming more popular with smartphones

Wi-Fi Direct, which lets two devices communicate with each other over Wi-Fi without first connecting through a router, is becoming more popular among smartphone designers, according to these reports. Another technology whose attributes are becoming more prevalent is near-field communications, which allows for mobile payments as well as authentication and other types of data sharing.
