Borrowers sweeten lenders' fees with book-runner deals

Companies in the U.S. are increasingly employing all of their lending banks to serve as book runners on securities offerings. These businesses hope that by paying underwriting fees to their banks, the banks will help them out when it is time to refinance debt or obtain concessions on terms.
