Major retailers likely to benefit from rivals' woes

Research consultancy Verdict Research says the most-trusted retail brands, including IKEA, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, likely will gain market share as many retailers have collapsed during the credit crunch and economic downturn. "Once the housing market recovers, the main players and non-specialists in furniture and floor coverings are set to benefit from the £855 million that we estimate will be available," said Maureen Hinton, lead analyst at Verdict.
