Twitter takes off with airline industry

Twitter, the micro-blogging service that breaks down communications into 140-character "Tweets," is gaining increasing traction in the airline industry. American Airlines offered live Twitter updates on its May 20 shareholder meeting, and Southwest Airlines announced its new Milwaukee service through a Tweet from its annual meeting. Many carriers, including Alaska Airlines, update promotional fares through Twitter, while United Airlines last week began offering special fares available exclusively to Twitter users.
