"Going viral" isn't a marketing strategy

Viral marketing is a contradiction in terms, writes Jim Meskauskas. Content goes viral because of its authenticity, Meskauskas argues, and seeking to deliberately construct a viral campaign directly undermines that process. Marketers should simply produce the best content they can, he adds, and let the chips fall where they may.
