Group rallies against seniority-based teacher layoffs in Conn.

A Connecticut group is seeking an end to policies that use seniority to determine which teachers will be laid off during budget cuts. Members of the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now gathered at the state Capitol Wednesday to restate their position on "last-in, first-out" policies, which they say have hurt talented new teachers. Officials with the state's largest teachers union say most districts currently include factors beyond seniority and it's best for layoff procedures to be handled at the district level.
