Study to examine how extreme diets affect health, quality of life

Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, are studying whether extreme diets that severely limit calorie intake affect a person's health and quality of life. Earlier data have suggested these diets may increase longevity, but the Caloric Restriction with Optimal Nutrition and Aging Study goes beyond that to look at markers of health, such as cholesterol levels, as well as stress, cognitive ability and impulse control.
