Two studies differ on HIE progress, sustainability

From roughly the same data, two studies draw different conclusions about regional HIEs. Harvard University researchers found that fewer than half of regional HIEs are operational, and many still are heavily dependent on federal grants. That's led the researchers to conclude that the exchanges will have difficulty standing on their own. An eHealth Initiative study, however, says the data indicate that sustainability is achievable.
