U.S. ad spending up 7% in first quarter

U.S. ad spending in the first quarter was $33 billion, up more than 7% from the same period last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus. All major media areas showed ad revenue gains, and the outlook for the rest of the year, partly thanks to the Summer Olympics and the presidential race, is strong.
