MDS Nordion says isotope shortage will affect earnings

MDS Nordion expects its monthly earnings to decrease about $4 million with the shutdown of the nuclear reactor in Ontario that produces medical isotopes. The company also predicts the effect of the shutdown will start to be felt worldwide this week. The aborted MAPLE project would have been the best alternative for ensuring a long-term global supply of medical isotopes, the company added.
