Study: HIT solutions needed to revamp primary-care delivery

Using electronic medical records, computerized physician order entry systems and tools for clinical-decision support could improve the delivery of primary care, according to a report from the New England Healthcare Institute. The study found that the number of doctors who provide primary care has dropped from 50% of all providers in 1950 to 30% in 2007, making it more difficult to meet the needs of aging patients.
