Gerard: Drilling ban would impede economic growth, job generation

Jack Gerard, president of the American Petroleum Institute, said the country needs access to affordable energy and that limits on resource production would stunt economic and job growth. His statement was made in response to President Barack Obama's decision to postpone all offshore oil- and gas-drilling activities because of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Gerard also called on the administration and Congress not to block sites that were already open to exploration, as well as to apply a scheduled process for resuming drilling.
