Telecoms in Japan, Portugal tap video-hardware vendors

Japan's KDDI has selected Motorola's new 500GB-equipped HD set-top box for its fiber-to-the-home-based IPTV service that will support 1-gigabit-per-second broadband connectivity. The telecom said it would begin deploying the VIP2060 boxes Wednesday. Portugal Telecom, meanwhile, said it had selected the Envivio "Three Screens" Internet TV platform for a PC-based video service that will mirror its IPTV offering.
