Teach for Australia expects to expand reach

Western Australia is expected to hire between 25 and 30 educators from the Teach for Australia programme in the next school year. Participants receive six weeks of training before entering the classroom. Supporters say the initiative will help recruit top teachers for schools that are hard to staff. Critics, however, including the teachers union, says the programme could harm disadvantaged students and undermine existing teachers.
