Procrastination often arises because a task prompts feelings of sadness, anger or fear, says Jude Bijou, a psychotherapist and author of "Attitude Reconstruction." She offers several strategies to deal with such emotions, including the use of positive self-talk. "Take one thing at a time. Just tell yourself, 'Let me do this.' Then, when you're done, say 'Good for me!' " she advises.
