Certified nurses are conscious of safety and provide an added layer of comfort to patients, according to certified critical care registered nurse Shawn Zembles of St. Mary's Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. Becoming a certified nurse is a significant step at hospitals, and at St. Mary's, the goal is to increase the number of certified nurses by 10% each year. "There's more camaraderie and more trust that certified nurses are sensing from others. It really shows your commitment to the profession and life-long learning," Zembles said.
