Federal grant to support recovery in Newtown, Conn., schools

The U.S. Department of Education announced Friday it will award $1.3 million in grant funding to Newtown, Conn., schools to help officials restore "a safe and healthy environment that is critical to teaching and learning." That same day, Education Secretary Arne Duncan attended a meeting in Hartford, Conn., where school safety was discussed. Officials said the federal grant will pay for support groups, creative expression and wellness activities, counseling and training for educators and others.
