Assignments need an academic focus in the final days of school or students will lose respect and treat class like a "day camp," sixth-grade teacher Alice Mercer writes in response to a question posted by Larry Ferlazzo in this blog post. Mercer, along with elementary-school teacher and principal Chris Wejr and middle-school dean Bill Ivey, share their philosophies for structuring the last days of the school year. In one assignment, Mercer had students figure out the probabilities behind games like cards and rock-paper-scissors.
