Mo. legislator discusses reasons for rejecting Medicaid expansion

Missouri Republican state Sen. Kurt Schaefer said the Legislature did not pass Medicaid expansion largely because of the cost to the state but added that uninsured residents who need care can get it at a federally qualified health center. Dr. Andrew Quint, medical director at the Family Health Center in Columbia, Mo., said FQHCs such as his cannot take care of the entire uninsured population, but if more people were covered by Medicaid, that would free up money to treat those who still would not have insurance.
