School physical-education bill wins support in Maine Senate

Public elementary schools in Maine would be required to provide students with at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day under legislation that received initial approval from lawmakers in the state Senate. Under the bill, teachers and administrators would be allowed to cut recess as a disciplinary measure for students but would be required to provide an alternative to help meet physical-activity goals.
