Tagging method may improve cancer diagnosis

Researchers at Rockefeller University have developed a technique, called multicolor miRNA FISH, that allows for the labeling of different types of miRNA in tumor tissue. The method allowed for the detection of two types of skin cancer from a single biological sample, according to the study published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation. The method may improve diagnosis of other cancers that are more difficult to detect, such as prostate cancer, researchers said.
