Texas students observe Memorial Day on school makeup day

Some Houston-area students observed Memorial Day in class while making up a school day lost to winter weather closures earlier in the year. Districts put together lesson plans and activities to promote the day's significance. Students at one high school re-created the American flag with red, white and blue uniforms. "They are probably learning more history today than usual," said Susan Passmore with the Goose Creek school district's communications department.
