AFT candidates may become first women to helm major labor union

Randi Weingarten, who is expected to be tapped this summer to take over the presidency of the American Federation of Teachers, along with two other women seeking other slots, may make history if they fill the top three leadership positions at the AFT. Weingarten, along with Antonia Cortese and Lorretta Johnson, each announced their candidacies last week for the positions of president, secretary-treasurer and executive vice president, respectively.
